ICAO 9303 MRZ Decoding & Batch Identity Extraction

Built for travel agencies, hotel reception desks, visa processors, and HR compliance teams, Utilvo's online Passport & ID Card MRZ Scanner locates the ICAO Document 9303 Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) at the bottom of international passports and national identity cards. It splits the OCR-B lines into structured passenger fields — Surname, Given Names, Document Number, Nationality, Birth Date, Sex, and Expiration Date — verifies modulo-10 check digits, and exports single or batch passenger manifests to Microsoft Excel (.XLSX).

TD3 Passport & TD1/TD2 ID Card Formats

Decodes 2-line 44-character international passport booklets (TD3), 3-line 30-character national ID cards (TD1), and 2-line 36-character travel cards (TD2).

Modulo-10 Check-Digit Verification

Executes the official ICAO 7-3-1 weighting checksum algorithm on the document number, date of birth, and expiration date to catch camera glare misreads.

Single & Batch Passenger Roster Export (.XLSX)

Queue multiple passport or ID photos in one batch and export a consolidated Microsoft Excel (.XLSX) passenger manifest for hotel check-in, visa desks, or HR onboarding.

OCR-B Chevron Repair & Line Reconstruction

Automatically repairs misread filler chevrons ('<<<') and normalizes OCR-B character spacing before running field-level biometric extraction.

Editable Biometric Fields & Raw MRZ Inspector

Review and edit parsed identity fields alongside the raw monospaced MRZ lines, with one-click copy for individual fields or the complete record.

Client-Side WebAssembly Identity Privacy

Passports and government IDs are processed strictly inside volatile browser RAM — zero identity photos or passenger records ever leave your device.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) on a passport or ID card?

The MRZ consists of two or three rows of uppercase letters, digits, and '<' filler chevrons printed in OCR-B font at the bottom of a travel document. Standardized by ICAO Document 9303, it encodes the holder's surname, given names, document number, 3-letter ISO country code, birth date, sex, and expiration date.

How does the modulo-10 check-digit verification work?

Every ICAO 9303 MRZ includes numeric check digits immediately following the document number, birth date, and expiry date. Each character value is multiplied by a repeating 7-3-1 weight and divided by 10. If holographic laminate glare causes '0' to be misread as 'O', the check-digit badge flags the field immediately.

Can I scan multiple passports into a single Excel (.XLSX) manifest?

Yes. Drop or select multiple passport or ID card images to build a batch queue, click 'Scan All', and use the 'All (N) .XLSX' button to download a single multi-row Microsoft Excel spreadsheet containing every passenger's verified biometric data.

What is the difference between TD1, TD2, and TD3 identity documents?

TD3 is the global passport booklet standard featuring 2 lines of 44 characters starting with 'P'. TD1 is the credit-card-sized national ID format with 3 lines of 30 characters (usually on the back of the card). TD2 is a 2-line, 36-character travel card and visa format.

Are passport images uploaded to an external server during scanning?

No. Both the neural OCR engine and the ICAO 9303 MRZ parser run 100% locally inside your web browser via WebAssembly. Identity photos and passenger details never touch a remote server.
