How to Use the Two-Player Split-Screen Chess Clock

Designed to replace a physical tournament clock next to an over-the-board (OTB) chessboard, SCRABBLE board, Go goban, or Shogi table, this Chess Clock runs on a millisecond-accurate requestAnimationFrame loop with tactile Web Audio click feedback and automatic screen Wake Lock:

  1. Select a Time Control Preset or Custom Setup: Click the Settings (Gear) button to pick one of 6 tournament presets (Bullet 1+0, Blitz 3+2, Blitz 5+0, Rapid 10+0, Rapid 15+10, Classical 30+0) or dial in custom base minutes and increment seconds.
  2. Tap to Start & Switch Turns: Black taps their clock panel to start White's timer. After making each move on the board, tap your own active panel to pass the turn to your opponent.
  3. Track Move Counts & Flag Falls: Each panel tracks total moves played, plays a 400 Hz warning beep when a player drops under 5 seconds, and locks the board with a Flagged banner the instant either clock hits 00:00.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Place your phone, tablet, or laptop beside the physical chessboard. Tap either player's panel to start the opponent's clock. After completing each move on the board, tap your own active clock panel to add any configured Fischer bonus, increment your move counter, and switch the countdown to your opponent.
In Fischer mode (such as Blitz 3+2 or Rapid 15+10), the bonus seconds are permanently added to your remaining clock total each time you complete a move—meaning you can accumulate extra time by playing fast. In Simple Delay mode, the clock waits for the delay countdown (e.g., 5 seconds) to expire before your main clock begins ticking down, so your main time never increases.
The first number is the base time in minutes allocated to each player at the start of the game, and the second number is the increment in seconds added per move. For example, 'Blitz 3+2' gives each player 3 minutes plus a 2-second Fischer bonus after every move.
Because the timer runs on a high-precision requestAnimationFrame loop in milliseconds, it triggers an audible low-time warning beep when a player drops below 5.0 seconds and immediately halts the game with a 'Flagged' alert the instant either clock reaches 00:00.
Yes. Click the Settings (gear) button in the center control bar while the game is paused to configure any custom base minutes (1 to 180 mins), increment seconds (0 to 60 secs), and increment type (None, Fischer, or Delay).
